LGBTIQ+ Health Australia’s Policy Priorities for the 2025 Federal Election

LGBTQIA+ people experience significant health and wellbeing disparities compared to the broader population. According to LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA), the national peak body for LGBTQIA+ health and wellbeing, these disparities stem from systemic discrimination, barriers to accessing healthcare and a lack of inclusive policies and programs. Ahead of the federal election, LHA has released its 2025 Federal Election Priorities, which outlines where it considers urgent action is needed to ensure equitable access to healthcare, support services and policy protections.

Queerly Different welcomes the specific focus LHA has given to LGBTQIA+ people living with disability, a part of the community that is often overlooked. As part of its 2025 Federal Election Priorities, LHA is calling for, albeit modest, funding to be allocated to strengthening national coordination, policy development and support for LGBTQIA+ people with disability. It is also seeking funding for LHA’s EmployableQ program, which provides resources for organisations to build safe and inclusive workplaces for LGBTQIA+ people with disability, and OVOLOW, a digital advocacy resource aimed at supporting LGBTQIA+ people with disability.

Throughout the election campaign, LHA also seeks to ascertain the LGBTQIA+ health policy intentions of candidates from across the political spectrum to help voters make informed choices when voting. Full details of LHA’s 2025 Federal Election Priorities and the survey sent to the major parties and independents can be accessed here.
