Spreading the hate: US tells UK to repeal hate speech laws or lose trade deal

US vice president JD Vance is reportedly demanding that the UK repeals its hate speech laws, including those protecting the LGBTQIA+ community and other minority groups from hateful comments, if it wants a future trade deal with the United States. The US also wants plans for a new online safety law to be shelved.

The UK Government has reportedly made it clear that it is not prepared to repeal the laws and that they are “not a feature of the [trade] talks”.
